Can
you repair my broken Barbara Davidson pot?
Unfortunately not, but we can probably make a pretty accurate
match for it. Go to Products
Page for details and prices.
Do
you repair any other broken ceramic items?
Sorry - we don't - but please read on! If the item has sentimental
rather than monetary value, you could repair it yourself by
following the instructions below. If it is an antique or in
need of expert attention - then The Scottish Conservation
Bureau, at Historic Scotland, Longmore House, Salisbury Place,
Edinburgh EH9 1SH - tel. 0131 668 8668 or fax. 0131668 8669
- will put you in touch with restorers in your area.
DIY Repairing requires patience, sellotape and 2-part epoxy
resin glue (Bostik Quick Set or Araldite quick set). If pieces
are missing you will need polyfilla or similar, and a watercolour
paintbox (a child's will do)
- Ensure areas are totally clean and dry.
- Do a dry run of the repair using the sellotape.
- Using the glue sparingly in the centre of the join (to
reduce the amount which squeezes out),
- glue one or two pieces at a time, ensuring they are held
in tight, and kept under pressure with your fingers or sellotape
until the glue sets.
- If there are gaps when you have finished, use the tape
over them as a former, and build up from the back with the
filler.
- When this is completely dry, use the watercolour to match
it, then varnish to the correct finish. Good Luck!
Do we train apprentices?
Not now - but there are at least 9 potters out there who
have spent a considerable time at BARBARA DAVIDSON POTTERY.
Can
our pots go in the dishwasher?
YES - they can also be used in a microwave, and are ovenproof.
N.B. - some of the ranges pre-1988 were made in earthenware
clay, and were not intended for heavy domestic use. If in
doubt go to "Products - No
Longer Made."
Can
my order be delivered?
YES - we offer a despatch service to anywhere in the world
where Royal Mail delivers, at their price + VAT - with small
orders packaged free of charge. U.K. VAT of 17.5% can be deducted
from our prices for goods sent by us to addresses outwith
the U.K. and E.C.
Can
I buy new Lampshades for my vintage Table lamps?
YES - if we cannot get your exact shape - we can have your
old one re-covered. We unfortunately can no longer get the
hessian fabric, but 'phone if you need more information, and
remember to bring the lamp and shade with you!
