Dawn & Clouds Range
"CLOUDS" has a beige/brown speckled background,
with a darker brown hand-decorated "wiggly" pattern.
It was first made in 1974, under the "LARBERT POTTERY"
label.
This meant that the shape had been designed by Barbara to
be made using industrial methods of manufacture, in this case
a "jigger and jolley". The finishing, glazing and
decorating was all done by hand, which gave it a unique quality,
with the ability to be made in quantity, unlike the Hand-thrown
pots.
"DAWN" followed around 1977/8 - and had a cream
background, with with brown and yellowish brush strokes.
The shape and pattern represents the sun coming from below
the horizon, and rising above it - in a very abstract form.
Many thousands of items in these two patterns were made until
1988, when the factory in Denny which was making them had
to close when two major customers went out of business in
the face of a deepening recession.
Barbara started making them again in Larbert, and continues
to make replacements for the basic items in both patterns.
She hand-throws any of the more unusual pieces, and the range,
as you can see by the Price List, is still extensive.
Both patterns have proved to be durable, and still very popular.
This is confirmed by the fact that pieces which eventually
turn up in charity and antique shops, are costing more than
they did originally, and more sometimes than the current replacements.
If there is enough demand, and our SWAP
SHOP becomes operational in the future, you may be able
to find the missing parts for your set, of the correct vintage!
